Rock Your World

Are you ready to rock your world? Massage stones are truly a fantastic addition to any massage therapists toolkit! They’re like a trusty sidekick, helping to ease the grind on your hands while delivering an amazing therapeutic experience. Whether heated or cooled, stones dive deep into those muscles, melting away pain and tension. Plus, any technique you can do with your hands becomes even more effective and comfortable for your clients when you incorporate massage stones.

Here’s a few ways you can incorporate stones into your treatments.

Manual myofascial release can be a drawn out procedure, a bit of a wait and see game, but by introducing warm stones into the mix, it speeds the process up and amps up the effectiveness.

Remember, warm stones are your go-to for this type of treatment, around 50o c is ideal.

Trigger-point release gets a fun boost with massage stones! Here are two awesome techniques to shake things up.

Technique #1 : Static Pressure

Place a warm stone with a rounded end on the targeted trigger point and hold with medium pressure for about 7 to 10 seconds. It’s more beneficial to repeat this little dance rather than resting on the point for too long, as shorter bursts reduce irritation and allow blood flow to do its magic.

Technique #2 : Good Vibrations

The second approach is all about the good vibes…. literally! Use a warm, oblong stone or one with a rounded point on the trigger point while you tap it with another stone. Tap repeatedly for 7 to 10 seconds to help release tension, and this method works wonders on larger areas, too! Just place a stone flat on the target zone and give it a little tap dance with the second stone as you glide along.

Cross-fibre friction re-imagined. Hold those stones with the long edge across the muscle fibres you want to work on, moving in opposing directions to break up any restrictions and get things flowing.

This technique is a fantastic way to gently break up scar tissue. To get started, simply place the edge of the stones on either side of the scar, tilt them inward, and then move them in opposite directions. When it comes to choosing the right size stone, remember this simple rule: for larger areas, go big with your stone; for smaller spots, pick a petite one!

Now, stripping a muscle can feel a bit uncomfortable for your client. While it’s super effective for separating those muscle fibres and letting them move freely, it might sting a little. But don’t worry! Using warm massage stones can ease the process for both you and your client. Just a tip: always work from the muscle’s origin to its insertion for the best results.

To get things rolling without any oil or balm, start warming the tissue by gliding a flat, hot stone over the skin. Then, angle the stone and let the long edge glide through the tissue. After a few passes, switch to a narrower edge of the stone and take your time moving through the muscle, gently separating the fibres as you go. When you’re using the narrowest point of the stone, keep your movements slow and steady. And remember: the deeper you go, the slower you want to move! If your massage stone cools off too much, don’t hesitate to swap it out. A warm stone means a more effective treatment!

Enjoy the massage stone adventure—it’s bound to make your sessions even more enjoyable and effective for everyone involved!
