Soothe is the world’s largest and fastest-growing on-demand massage service, bringing the healing power of massage to your home, office, or hotel in as little as an hour. Launched in 2013, Soothe is now operating in 35 major cities and plans to reach 50 before the end of 2016. Soothe is currently recruiting mobile massage therapists in Sydney to join the network, where they will be able to work their own hours, and be referred clients in their local area.
Founder and CEO Merlin Kauffman created the company while at Harvard Business School. Kauffman was traveling frequently and found it difficult to schedule a massage at a time and place that was convenient for him. What started as a solution to his own problem has grown into a flourishing business, routinely posting double-digit MoM growth.
Offering four massage modalities, including Swedish, Deep Tissue, Sports, and Prenatal, Soothe allows customers to book a customized massage experience to meet their wellness and relaxation needs. All massage modalities can also be performed as a couples massage. Soothe massages are available seven days a week between 8AM and midnight. In addition to massage at home, Soothe also provides offers in-office chair massage through the Soothe at Work corporate wellness programs as well as Soothe Events, where therapists bring a chair or table massage to events of all sizes.
Soothe has distinguished itself from competitors by exhibiting genuine care and integrity for all therapists on the network. In the US Soothe pays 3-4 time the industry standard where therapists are often exploited by spas on a minimum wage. In Sydney where the cost of living and traffic need to be considered, therapists are paid higher rates, earning up to $90/h. Soothe also has a 2 way rating system, where clients not only rate the quality of the therapists that perform the massage, but therapists also have the opportunity to rate their clients, ensuring all repeat clients on the network demonstrate respect towards the therapists and provide a safe environment to work wherever they are in the world. Therapists can even block clients from requesting them again, or request for clients to be removed from the network altogether if any inappropriate requests are made. The dispatch team work 24 hours to ensure all therapists “check in” and “check out” of a job safely, managing all payments and time extensions for the therapists, ensuring they are paid within 1 business day.
With nearly 5,000 independent certified massage therapists, across 35 cities, Soothe is growing rapidly with plans to be open across at least 50 cities by then end of 2016. Being part of the Soothe network simply provides mobile massage therapists the opportunity to be connected with more clients in their local area without the overhead costs of running a business, as well as the peace of mind, knowing that the dispatch team is there to provide support around the clock. With no penalties for knocking back job offers, therapists choose exactly when they want to work, and where they want to work in. Just like Uber, job opportunities are offered to the therapists through the Soothe app, where therapists race to click on the ones they want. With this flexible working arrangement, and no “compete clauses” in the contract, it’s easy to see why joining Soothe is really a “no brainer” for any any professional massage therapist going mobile looking for a few additional clients in their business.
